Application to attend the 2022 Umoja conference - November 3-5.
Attending the annual Umoja conference is a privilege. The speakers are internationally known and respected. The workshops are stimulating and engaging. Plus, you have an opportunity to network with other motivated Black students from around the state and receive information on student success and transfer. You are expected to attend sessions and take notes; you will be presenting what you learned to the class.
In order to attend, you must be passing all your classes as evidenced by returning the Umoja progress report. Your application receives bonus points if you have met with your mentor, attended Village, attended Indabas, and been involved in the Umoja Club.
Appropriate behavior is required. You are representing yourself and family, our Umoja program, and Bakersfield College. Of course, you are expected to attend sessions on time, pay attention, meet others, and take notes.
Students, no matter their age, are not allowed to consume alcohol or recreational drugs (KCCD policy). You are to follow agreed-upon rules on curfew and/or checking in so that you get the most out of the conference. In general, you will conduct yourself with dignity and respect others.
Violations of BC's policy on drugs and alcohol will result in you being sent home at your expense.
This year the conference is in Anaheim. All expenses (transportation, food, hotel, registration) are covered by the College.
